More 3.2.2 notes – Bone Shield Charges Reduced
I wondered how and if they’d handle Bone Shield’s overpoweredness when they reduced its cooldown back down to a minute. Mmochampion has new patch notes listed today that address the issue.
- Bone Shield: This ability now has 3 charges instead of 4. Cooldown reduced to 1 minute.
- Glyph of Bone Shield: This glyph now grants 1 additional charge instead of 2.
So instead of six charges when glyphed, it’ll have 4 total. Hopefully this will mean it will have a decent and reasonable uptime instead of being completely broken. I like Unholy and all but its nice to have a choice between tanking trees instead of being shunted into just one.
This is the part where I smirk at the paladins, warriors and druids.

I’m a bit concerned that this will make Bone Shield harder to keep up while DPSing, but the cooldown reduction probably accounts for that.
What are your thoughts on the HS cleave nerf?

Yeah the cooldown reduction should be enough to make sure you’ve got it up for the most part.
As far as the HS nerf goes… I’m fairly neutral towards it. It does mean that blood’s “aoe” threat is reduced but the dps implications of having your main nuke hit two targets simultaneously are weightier than the marginal tank threat issue.

Woah! Heart Strike is getting nerfed?
/cry
I totally agree about the joy of multiple tanking trees. It’s one of the many design choices I love on DKs.

Its only getting nerfed on its secondary target which is virtually irrelevant for tanking in my opinion.

Since I DPS on my DK, that still makes me rather sad.
Although presumably it won’t affect single-target.

Meh, wrote a longer reply which disappeared. Bottom line. You’re way off base regarding HS being irrelevant for tanking. Blood is quite weak for aoe tanking in general. HS allows good multiple-target threat and the nerf WILL affect this. Not to say blood tanks will be broken, but to say it’s irrelevant is just wrong.

I’ve never said Heart Strike was irrelevant for tanking. My particular Blood build is built entirely around the ability. I’ve said that this upcoming change that halves the damage of the secondary attack on Heart Strike is irrelevant for tanking.
Yes Blood has weak aoe threat. Even if you talent for all the things that could improve your aoe threat as Blood you’d still not have very good threat in aoe situations. Using a Blood build for aoe threat is about as efficient as pounding nails with the flat of a wrench. If you want aoe threat, use your secondary talent spec for a Frost build. There’s no reason not to play to your strengths with your talents.
I’m not particularly interested on this nerf’s effect on trash tanking either. My focus is on bosses. Of all the relevant bosses that exist right now I can’t think of more than maybe two where this change might have a noticeable effect. The list of encounters this nerf will have no effect on is a far far longer list.
Hence, irrelevant for all intents and purposes.
