New Rules 6/30/09

without comments

It is Tuesday, June 30th, here are your new rules…

New Rule – Class Q&A’s should focus on questions and answers.

There seems to have been a misunderstanding about the purpose behind these class Q&A discussions the devs have been doing. From the perspective of a player I assumed this would be devs taking a large sampling of all kinds of questions from the playerbase and then answering them directly. Not so much the case in reality.

Apparently they thought this was finally their opportunity to update the class descriptions that have been so wildly out of date on the Blizzard main page. They’ve done a fair job of reiterating things they’ve said before about their idea of what a particular class is all about and that’s about it. That’s cool if they want to do that… but maybe be slightly more up front about it in the future.

New Rule – All armorsets have to be colored jet black.

If you’re familiar with the Jade Warrior Pauldrons you’ll know why the gear you get from Northrend quests as you level looks the way it does. While nothing comes to mind immediately that trumps the hideousness of those shoulders, armor sets in general tend to look pretty darn horrible. Sometimes they get the shape right and the color wrong, sometimes the colors are awesome but you look like a clown trying desperately to be cool.

I say let’s just make all the tier sets from this point on colored jet black. The kind of black that drowns out almost every detail. It may mean that we all look the same but hey, we’ll all look like ninjas!

The new 5man dungeon has to be difficult.

Like pre-nerf Heroic Magister’s Terrace. That reaction I had to seeing the warlock’s immolate dot on me the first time? Yeah, that. The panic and anger I had while rounding up a whole heap of bad guys doing insane damage with ridiculous glaive stuns? Let’s bring that back.

New Rule – If you’re going to cheat, at least do it well.

Obviously by now everyone probably knows that Exodus, the guild who claimed the world-first kill of Yogg-Saron with no keepers, exploited a pretty obvious bug in their kill. They’ve been banned for a few days because of it even. Here’s the thing guys, you aren’t the first people that have cheated to get a kill under your belt. Ensidia has all kinds of dodgy things in their history. You might have gotten away with it had you done some prep work beforehand. Maybe cheated in a less obvious way on some of your previous kills.

Something that seems to work for other guilds is to just be up front about your cheating. Tell Blizzard pre-emptively what you did and make it their fault that you had to do it. This will soften the system up so that when you do decide to be so flagrant in your cheating, it’ll at least count when you need it. Where’s the swagger, where’s the sense of entitlement? You can do better than this.
