Battleground Blues

It just ain’t the same yo.

Once upon a time you could get into a battleground without having to wait thirty minutes. Once you got in you wouldn’t always find yourself staring at a perfect win for the other team already in progress.

Tell me again why it takes half an hour to get into Arathi? I’ve entirely given up trying to get into anything else. Tell me again why I’m getting killed in two hits once I do get into Arathi despite having nearly 900 resilience? Tell me why its the last patch of the expansion and victory is still decided by which team has the most Ret paladins and DK’s?

Even more importantly, tell me why I always get killed at the precise moment that ensures I will have to wait the full 30 seconds to spirit rez?

But most importantly, why the hell can I not queue up for more than two battlegrounds at a time?

Grats on making pve content so readily accessible but I hope that accessibility didn’t come at the cost of one of the other majorly fun parts of the game.

  1. I think right now a lot of people are opting to run five-mans instead of battlegrounds and that’s why the queues are longer. I’m sure that will even out again in time.

The thing with ret pallies and DKs is so true. The other day I took a screenshot of an AV I was in, and 12 out of 40 people in the raid where paladins. You’ve got to wonder about balance if more than a quarter of the PvPers prefer one class over the other nine…

I wish it were just because of the renewed interest in heroics but the queue times have been awful for a long time now. Also, on the further absurdity of paladinry (totally a word), have you ever used the dungeon finder tool and not had a paladin in the party?

  2. I think that battlegrounds have lost their popularity because, for the most part, you need to have sufficient arena rank in order to spend your honor points on pvp gear. That’s all well and good if you enjoy running the arena, but it does cut out the more casual player who just wants to run a BG or two between raids. That scales into fewer people queuing up for BG’s, which along with the newly released pve content, makes for pretty lengthy queue times.

Good point. Getting blown up in seconds because you don’t have the latest and greatest arena gear surely isn’t something that’ll keep you coming back for more.

  3. So in regards to battlegrounds I agree 100%. It absolutely sucks that you end up waiting so long to get into one. Often times you end up joining a losing one at that. It does nothing to make people want to run. Even worse is that you have to tolerate the annoying ignorance of people who have no clue about the strategies to win the battlegrounds. Sadly I do not know if there is a way to fix the battleground system.

In regards to the concern for gear. It is possible to gather PVP gear from several different avenues. Arena naturally is going to provide the best quality gear, but in comparison it is no different than someone who gathers gear from heroic dungeons versus raids. They do put out previous seasons gear for purchase with just honor. Depending on your server, if you control WG, you can always run Vault 10/25 to acquire high level PVP gear as well. I think the gearing is fair enough.

In regards to the influx of players who choose Paladins and DKs, I have no clue. I have been a Paladin since before they were “the” class. I also run only as Holy in PVP. I think it is comparable to a few years back when everyone complained about Locks and that they were the cruise control to victory. I think whatever class seems to be getting press, will always have more people playing it.
